Triton™ X-100 is a commonly used nonionic surfactant and emulsifier, often employed in biochemical applications for solubilizing proteins.
It is considered a relatively mild detergent, non-denaturing, and is widely cited in references as a routinely added reagent.
Triton X-100 is used to lyse cells to extract proteins and cellular organelles. It can also permeabilize the living cell membrane for transfection purposes.
